SIOUX CITY (KTIV) -The 2024 Siouxland Garden Symposium is set to take place, on March 16, at the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center.
Formally known as the Siouxland Garden Show, Iowa State University says the day promises to be a time filled with inspiration and knowledge related to gardening.
The event starts with check-in and refreshments from 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Those interested can expect presentations by four speakers on a variety of topics in gardening and a luncheon catered by Aggie’s from Sergeant Bluff.
The speakers of the event include:
- Stephanie Barelman of Omaha, Nebraska and keynote speaker of the event. Barelman is the host and content creator for the Plant Native Nebraska podcast as well as the founder of the Bellevue Native Plant Society and a freelance pollinator landscapes designer. Iowa State University says Barelman’s topic “The New Midwestern Cottage Garden – How the Heartland of America Can Redefine Whimsical Garden with Native Plants,” promises to be a captivating exploration into the world of native plants and garden design.
- Dr. Ajay Nair, a Horticulture Professor from Iowa State University who specializes in sustainable vegetable production will share insights into “All Things Tomato.” His expertise will provide attendees with information on cultivating and caring for this vegetable.
- Sarah Browning, a Nebraska Extension Educator who specializes in fruit and vegetable production and food safety, will lead a discussion on “Soil and Soil Health.” Iowa State University says her insights will be for those looking to enhance the fertility and productivity of their garden soil.
- Amanda Beck, A Grower from Natural Beauty will conclude the symposium with a presentation on how to “Add Interest to Your Garden with Form and Texture,” which will provide event guests with ideas to make their garden visually appealing.
Iowa State University says the Siouxland Garden Symposium promises to be an enriching experience for garden enthusiasts of all levels.

The money collected from the registration fees is used to offset direct expenses and will support the Ag and Natural Resources Woodbury Extension Program.
